yes if you use them right,
they need to be changed every few hours like a pad because they can cause a bactiria build up,
and if you wear them everyday it would be a good idea to not wear them a couple days a week so your vagina wont be moist all the time because this can cause a yeast infection
but as far as getting like tss from them....no they are 100% safe in that case

Change them at least daily or when they become soiled. Many women that have discharges like to use them to protect their panties and change them 2-4 times per day. make sure you throw them away at least once per day.
