Since one blade is not longer the same tool, a single is called a pair of scissors. Unless, of course, you are talking about a scissor jack, a scissor cut, or a scissor kick. A broken half of a pair of scissors would be a scissor blade.

Scissors is singular and plural. People mostly say "a pair of scissors" these days but you will find many 19th century works speaking of "a scissors". Another word that confuses many is "forceps". This is singular only. One forceps, two forcipes.

The singular of scissors would be scissors.
In English, words like scissors are grammatically plural but conceptually singular, while words like suds are both grammatically and conceptually plural. Words like army can be interpreted plurally, despite being grammatically singular.

"scissors" is a pluraletantum, i.e. there's no singular of the word in English (and there was not even one of the Vulgar Latin "cisoria" from which scissors is derived.) Thge same foes for words such as "cattle", "wages", "jeans", "pliers" etc.
