What the hay is a View-Finder I need to know for my art project I cant seem to understand what it is

A view finder looks like a red pair of binoculars(plastic).
On the very top of them and in the middle was a slot to drop in a round disk that came with the view finder. I can't remember if you got 2 or 4 of the disc.
Anyway, you drop a round disc in and there is a lever on the right side that you pull down each time you want to see a different "still picture" on the disc. On each round disc there were sever rectangle looking pictures that could be seen in the view finder.The pictures would be all around the disc.
You looked through a view finder like looking into a real camera b/4 you took the picture, only you are looking at still pictures.

a little window you look through when taking a picture. Old school stuff.
