Yes, it's BS. A good example is the movie, "The exorcism of Emily Rose." If an intelligent sane person sees that movie then they see theat the Priest was obviously liable for that girl's death, but when superstitous people see it they think that the devil or a demon was in the poor girl and the priest was a god-warrior or something. What does common friggin sense tell you? Right...it's BS. That poor girl need a doctor, not a cross slapped upside her head and "holy" water thrown all over her.

Since there is no such things as the devil, demons, and nobody can be "possessed", then I would say that an exorcism is a bunch of BS. Kind of a made-up remedy for a psychosomatic illness.

I saw exorcism ritual once, not by christian ritual but islamic ritual.
I was studying Javanese culture in Indonesia in traditional villages, where the local people has strong beliefs in supranatural things.
one day, a girl was possessed by a djinn or so they called it. ppl said it was because she angered the djinn by passing the place where the djinn reside in her period, considered she was unclean.
the girl went amok, personally i hardly believe it and thought she was just stressed out or having a mental problem.
her parents and local people then called a 'dukun' (witchdoctor) to cure her.
the traditional javanese has mixed culture of islam and animism beliefs. they was convert to islam in 15th-16th century but still practizing their traditional way.
the dukun performed a ritual by chanting Qur'an verses while the other holding the girl. this kind of action is little to be known in other muslim world. any muslim may chanting Qur'an verses, but only people with special power such as the dukun can perform exorcism ritual.
anyway, hearing upon the chant, the girl scream out very loud and try to break loose. the process took almost an hour before the girl finally calmed down. the dukun proclaimed the djinn had been rid out from the girl's body.
the girl need several days to rest. it seem she had already cured, as it never happened again to her

there are documented cases where priests have performed exorcisms. I think the Movie "the exorcist" was partly based on true events. True exorcisms are rarely talked about outside of the persons involved with them tho.

It's real. The Bible even tells of several occasions where people were being possessed by bad spirits. Usually the victim will suddenly be very unpleasant around people, cursing, swearing, and attacking anyone who comes near. Often you'll see them look more sickly and agitated. That's when they call in priests or ministers to get the Lord to pull out whatever spirit is controlling them.

kind of think of when a person has to cut out or burn off an infection or leech from their body.

most of the cases i think it is just the people being paranoid and think they are possessed. but there are real exorcisms. priests do them in real life... but yea as i said i think MOST cases are just people being paranoid. there are a few that i think are real.. such as the Anneliese Michel case... you might know it from the movie called The Exorcism of Emily Rose. i do believe that it was real possession

As a Pagan spiritual cleanser(exprcist) i am highly inclined to say that it is true, but you would first have to have a haunting by a negative entity, and have an exorcist get rid of it for it to have nay truth for you.

it's true,i've experienced it for myself.But not the way you see in the exorcism movie and stuff.all evil spirit care about is Jesus' name, not anything else.Bible said:'You will cast out demons', so those who believe in the bible should know that it's true.
