You're fine. I gained like that because of fluid at the end, too. My baby was born healthy. I recovered just fine. Don't worry. :)

This sounds just like my first pregnancy. I put on so much water weight gain at the end that when my husband would rub my ankles the dents would stay for a few minutes, sometimes 1 inch deep. This in itself is not dangerous. My next appointment however they found that my blood pressure was getting too high. I was also overdue. I was induced and it worked great. In answer to your concern about weight from water: After I had my son about 6 hours, I weighed myself I had lost 15 pounds (8pound baby, placenta , and amniotic fluid). The first 2 nights in the hospital I sweated sooo much that in the morning my nightgown and sheets were soaked. Then I weighed myself again and I had lost another 15 pounds. The moral is don't worry about water, your body will be very efficient at getting rid of any extra quickly. The last month the baby may gain up to one whole pound a week. All my best to you.

Oh, sweetie... water retention is VERY normal, especially toward the end of pregnancy. It sounds like your doctor was not exceptionally worried that it could be something wrong... just that it's something to pay attention to. If he'd thought there was a serious problem, he'd have put you in the hospital.

Contractions at this point are also VERY normal. Your body's getting ready to do a lot of really hard work, so the muscles are flexing a bit.

Make sure you're drinking plenty of water, watch your salt intake carefully, and if you can walk safely, get a few short walks in each day.

Also, if they induce labor at 38 weeks, the baby should be fine and you will, too! The lungs are fully developed around 36-37 weeks.. and the baby will be, at that point, 2 weeks shy of it's full-term weight.. which could be a REALLY good thing! Big enough to help out, but not so big as to make it a really tough labor!

Trust your doctor and continue taking good care of yourself! This all just means you're getting ready!!

Im sure your fine. I gained 11 pounds in 3 weeks at one of my appointments. That was when I was around 24 weeks or so. Since then I havent gained much at all. Its normal for that to happen sometimes. I couldnt believe I had gained that much at once , but I did. SOmetimes I go to my appointments and have lost a pound or two. Anyways, your ababy will be fine. I have been having contractions since I was18 weeks and I was put in to the hospital at 26 weeks for threatened preterm labor. Now Im 34 weeks and relieved to have gotten this far. I m due March 28th. I had my 3rd son at 34 weeks and he was a healthy baby and went home with me 2 days later. . So anyways, I dont know what Im going on and on about..lol. You and your baby will be fine. Good Luck.

They are looking for signs of preecclampsia. That is why they wanted to test your urine. If it shows that you have a lot of protein and your blood pressure is elevated, they may go ahead and induce you. The reason being is that having the baby will reverse the edema and subsequently the increased blood pressure. Did you notice an increase in swelling to your face? Was your blood pressure elevated at the visit? Are you having blurred vision, severe headache...? Generally, your doctor would have admitted you had he/she thought you needed to be induced now or felt you or the baby were in danger. You should call your doctor and tell him/her how you feel. If you aren't satisfied with the answer you get from the doc go to the ED.

If they are talking about inducing you, there must be a reason. If you gained 6 pounds of water weight, they are most likely concerned about toxemia, which can be dangerous. You are far enough along to be induced safely with no ill effects on your child, but they won't do it until after your due date unless toxemia is a real danger. If that is the case, they will induce before it gets any worse and you and your baby will be fine.
Congratulations!

i think you will be fine. since they tested you and your okay i wouldn't worry so much and they might induce you or not. if you don't want them to and the baby has no stress going on then tell them no! you don't have to do anything you don't want to ever.

and don't worry to much with my only child i was about as far along as you and my son was due Feb 22 and in one week i gained 8 lbs and i was fine and i went 2 wks over with him so don't worry.

That is a lot to gain in a week, but I think the doctor would have put you on bedrest if you were at risk for losing your baby. Do you have high blood pressure? It could be preeclampsia, if it is they will probably enduce you. It can be very dangerous. Good Luck, you will have your baby soon. I have to wait 24 more weeks.
