this has to go with seeshomaru. as you know, if you didn't then let me explain, inuyasha needs the tetsusuaiga to keep the demon "locked up" within him. and at the beginning seeshomaru wanted to take this sword away from him, feeling inuyasha was unworthy of possesing such a sword. think back to the third time inuyasha turns into a demon to battle, Gatenmaru's, the moth demon. this is with the bandits attacking the villiage if you can't recall. seeshomaru came to see if what Boku'seno, the tree demon said was true about inuyasha's demon blood taking full control of him. but here's the infrence:

didn't seeshomaru also cares for inuyasha a little bit, being that they are still brothers. seeshomaru doesn't care for inuyasha, so why would he care if inuyasha is at a demon state? puzzling question. what do you think?

It is a question of honor and sibling rivalry

Sesshomuru wants the tetsuiaga because it gives him the ability to kill hundreds of demons with a single blow but more importantly it is his father's fang and he thinks being a full demon it is rightfully his. Unfortunately,it will never work for him becaue he has no love for humans. Inuyasha does. The sword works for him because he protects humans, in particular Kagome.

As for the fact the tetsusaiga prevents Inuyasha from going insane Sesshomuru can see the shame in letting his brother become a raving maniac. Where as it would do him no dishonor to win the sword from Inuyasha, it would do him no honor to take it off him after while he was crazy, if he could kill him when he is half crazy. Remember that is how he lost his arm.

Sesshomuru inherits his own sword, the tensaiga designed to heal people, worthless in battle but a sign to him that his father wanted him to protect humans like Rin who he keeps with him.
She reminds him of what his father valued and what he must stand for.

Anyway, I don't see an inference here. It is pretty much stated fact that their father wanted them to follow in his footsteps. The tetsusaiga keep Inuyasha from forgetting who he is and the tensaiga does the same for Sesshomuru. And like I said they are not intended to be weilded by the other brother so there is no reason to fight over them and assuming they did fight over them there is no honor in beating a crazy person to get the tetsusaiga.
