My lizard won't eat. I've even tried hand-feeding him. HE WON'T EAT!!!!! He keeps getting skinnier and skinnier! Plus, the end of his tongue is blood red. Is that normal? What do I do!?!
P.S. I feed him mealworms!

Leopard geckos prefer to hunt their food. Buy live crickets and put them in the tank & I guarantee your gecko will eat. You can buy live crickets anywhere that sells reptiles. The average gecko eats 4-10 crickets every two days. I have two that are about 1 1/2 years old and they eat 10-15 large, live crickets every other day. Mealworm are to used as a treat, not their basic food. The blood red tounge is probably a side effect of hunger and the mealworms. Once you get the crickets, its toungue should return to its normal color.

i know that some lizards such as iguanas have a bright red spot at the tip of the tounge that looks like a lesion but is not. I don't know if leopard geckos have this. As far as not eating, is his cage at an adequate temperature? Is he tame enough to handle, have you tried putting the food directly into his mouth. He should see a vet. By the time reptiles show signs of being sick, they are usually very sick.

i think that the problem mostly centers around the fact that you have an animal locked up in a cage. its life sucks wicked bad. it wants to die. let it.
