Of course they listen to music! Band geeks (me). I love old jazz, rock (specifically Beck, Coldplay, and Keane) reggae and surf, (especially The Ziggens) And Latin Jazz, like Quincy Jones. And oh yeah, as iamthelastsamurai put it, I have done some "They Might Be Giants" listening in my day. But not much. I definitely think some of the music I listen to is a whole lot better than some of this uh- other stuff. I listen to just about everything except emo (emu) classical, country and rap.

I'm a geek, but not the tech kind. I know very little about modern technology, but I enjoy geology, geography, environmental activism, adventure sports, literature, performing classical music, and ice hockey. My friends say I am the biggest geek they have ever known. If I am the kind of geek you were referring to, here is what I like:
I enjoy indie, bluegrass, Irish punk, jam, world music, polka (when I am enjoying an Oktoberfest) jazz, and classical.
If you were referring to a technology geek, I think those people like ridiculous bands/singers like Good Charlotte, Nickelback, Hilary Duff, Pussycat Dolls, etc. Mainstream music basically. I say that, because I think those types of geeks are less creative. They are great with computers, though, so who cares if they have no creative tastes? Without them, we would not have Yahoo Answers.

Well "geeks" as you put it, are usually more successful in life, than an average joe. I'm sure they listen to whatever music everyone else is listening too, or whatever is their personal preference of music. I'm also sure that they don't just listen to certain music to impress others. "Geeks" are usually too intelligent, and focused to follow someone or something because it's considered "cool".
