And 63% of the American public.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush faces widespread opposition to the troop buildup in Iraq, though he has gained support over the past month, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

The president has nudged support for the troop increase to 35% from 26% in early January. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed still oppose the increase.

The increased support came from some of Bush's core supporters — Republicans, men, whites, suburbanites and people with higher incomes."

So, no matter how you cut it, opposition to sending more troops is coming from a sizable segment of American Republicans.

So why are Republicans acting like this is purely a Democratic position?

Because it's primarily Democrats who are fighting Bush and not supporting the troops. Alot of Republicans support the President as well. The American public is being brainwashed by the media to be anti-war. Plus, it's not like every American has been polled about their opinion on Iraq. I know I haven't and I don't know anyone who has. Also, it's mostly Democrats like Murtha who want to prevent the troops from receiving training and supplies.

I'm a conservative republican and the way people like me normally view it is we don't back down. We are the most poweful nation, why show weakness? I see where people are going with being against the surge and wanting out. I just think things will be much worse when we leave than if we stay. You have to look into the future before you make a decision like that.

because just as democrats did in the very beginning of this war we were lead to believe that it was a just war to get those responsible for our attack in NYC but than as time moved on we realized it was a personal gain for the prez not only to revenge his daddy but to gain profits for his pockets and the reason they want to put the blame on the opposition is to try to regain a few hundred thousand votes for there party come election time

Because the citizens have voiced outrage as to the Bush Administration's answer to an exit strategy being to send more troops; thus, risking more American lives.

The Republicans who voted with the Democrats have shown they response to their constituents, and have shown good sense.

This position is bipartisan- but absolutely meaningless. How dense do they think we are? If they wanted to do something real they would do it- but they are too cowardly.

We need some grown ups in congress for a change!

They put their fingers to the wind and acted accordingly. We all relies that the war will still go on unless the dems defund it.

Just think what will happen if that accrues.
