That's the way capitalism works. There will always be a large gap. But if you look at the poorest of our poor, they live MUCH better compared to people in Africa who eat grass in the desert. Most of our poor have color TVs.

The biggest causes of poverty are...

Substance abuse/addiction
Sever Psychological Disorders (Depression, Schizophrenia)
Out of wedlock/teenage births. (Single parents = haaaard time)
Dropping out of school.

A lot of it can be prevented by education and making good decisions. But some people are just self-destructive and will do things like abuse drugs, so there will always, in any society, be a certain population that will inevitably be homeless and poor.

Because the rich keep stealing from the poor, and then blame them for being poor!

Bush has had 2 tax cuts for the rich, and a 3rd in his current budget, though he has cut VA hospitals twice! He is the only American President to give tax cuts in a time when our troops are in combat! He is stealing from the middle and lower class to give to those who already have far more than they need.

If we mention taxing the rich, the repubs cry"redistribution of Wealth"! Well why not? Isn't stealing from the poor the same thing? I mean. how many houses can you have!

All the things we do in other countries translates into wealth here, whether it is making 500 new millionaires off of Iraq blood money, or stealing oil or other resources! We have been doing it for years. One would think the government should represent the people, but oil and big business are not the people! And that is who we go to war for!

I think it's mainly because of "haves" are better educated, more emotionally stable, and tend to be more willing to delay pleasure for a greater reward in the future. Also "haves" tend to take responsibility for their own life and don't waste a lot of time blaming someone else for their problems. Instead, they take control of their own lives and work to overcome their shortcomings and obstacles to improve the life of themselves and others.
Also, "haves" try to come up with solutions for other people problems. The most successful work to become great at something that they are passionate about and/or do something to help other people (ie invent something useful, or do something well that need to be done).

"Have nots" tend to be fairly ignorant, have a lot of problems (mostly brought on themselves because of poor choices) which they blame on other people. They tend to see themselves as victims. They tend to be selfish and will lie, cheat, steal, or do something to hurt other people for money (ie sell drugs). "Have nots" tend to want the reward now and sacrifice the future for it (like buying something on credit that they can't really afford and end up paying large interest rates which they are too ignorant to realize will cost them a lot more in the long run).
The solution is morality, discipline, and education (in order of importance).

the answer is discret but the reason is'nt they have a hidden agenda. IF you send the bums in government to private life they most likly in up in a nursing home but if you don't they will cause havick abroad and at home eventually we will have a war our in our streets between the haves and have nots. also if they contiue to import poverty period

Because the Have Nots keep having children they cannot afford, who will end up in poverty like their parents.

Some family planning would do wonders for this problem

I agree that foreign aid should end. All of it.

But, ask a wealthy Canadian why they come here for healthcare, rather than stay in Canada.

Instead of taxing us more, find a way to get a better job with better benefits and quit relying on the government.

It's so much worse in the US. Look up the ratio of CEO pay to average worker pay in the USA, Germany and Japan. It's staggering.
Wonder if Moltar would even support ending foreign aid to Israel?

Because as long as 80% of the population controls only 10% of the wealth, the haves are making the decisions for everyone - including the have nots.

And hartman, sometimes you speak sense. This isn't one of those times. . .
