How do you feel about the new dollar gold coin just
put in circulation? It is about the size of a quarter
with George Washington's face on it (I think later
Lincoln and a couple others face will also be on it)??

Sugarbaby, you haven't been spending them as quarters. They only went into circulation today and they are a different color than quarters.

Shannanigans, you may be right that not a lot of people will use them, but that does not make it a dumb idea. When I was a kid 25 cents would buy many things that cost over a dollar today, but I do not remember any asking for $0.25 bills. The new coin may catch on and it may not.

JusPeachy, I have to disagree with you about it being a waste of money. Although a coin costs more to make than a bill, it lasts so much longer that using coins instead of bills actually saves the government money. Furthermore, if the government is correct that a lot of people will be collecting sets of the coins as they are with the statehood quarters, the governmeent will be making money by selling coins for a dollar when they cost less than half that amount to make. BTW, the Sacajawea dollars are still available and used.

A little more about the program. There is going to be a coin issued for every president who has been dead for at least two year. They will be issued in the same order that the presidents took office, with a new issue about every three months.

Because the use of two-dollar bills and dollar coins, as opposed to using one dollar bills, saves the government money I am in favor of the using them. I am not, however, in favor of discontinuing the production or use of the one dollar bill as long as such a large percentage of the population prefers them.

I am already using dollar coins and two dollar bills more often than I use one dollar bills primarily because I want more people/stores to get accustomed to using them, increasing their popularity and familiarity. I figure if I can save the government a little money at no cost to myself, I might as well do it.

We use both dollar coins and two dollar coins in Canada. When they first came out, there was a lot of protest. They are surprisingly convenient! I think it is a great idea. More cost effective in the long run, as the wear and life of a coin is longer than that of a bill.

definite. on an identical time as they fee extra to make initially (approximately $.12 according to coin vs. $.04 according to greenback bill), the bill will could get replaced _20_ instances for the duration of the existence of the coin. so some distance as "having to hold around a pocket of them", it quite is why they make fives and tens. And suitable now, the people who _do_ could carry somewhat a lot of replace could carry quarters--almost thrice the burden for an comparable volume of money. the fee of the metallic in the present $a million coin is so some distance under the face fee that it would be an prolonged, long term in the previous it rises above the face fee--so because it should not be a issue. ultimately, each and every time this question is asked, some people think of they're going to be clever and say "What approximately strippers?" at the start, you will get extra useful service in case you tip with a $5, so don't be so freaking much less high priced. Secondly, if the perfect case you additionally could make for safeguarding the greenback bill is how the replace could impression strippers, you have already lost the arguement. each and every first international us of a in the international has long gone to funds for an equivalent volume of money different than us. the possibilities are that we at the instant are not the clever ones in this. It's a really dumb concept I don't honestly think that many people are going to use it. Paper dollars are so much lighter and easier to use that coins.

AND REALLY, WHOSES GONNA COUNTERFEIT A NICKEL OR DOLLAR? THEY SHOULD BE ONLY MAKING OUR BIG BILLS HARDER TO COUNTERFEIT.

AND SPENDING THOSE THOUSANDS OF OUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS ON MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IE HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION AND THE LIKE.
