Sterling Silver, when purchased from a reputable source (lets say within the U.S.)
Will ALWAYS be marked 925, or 92.5.
Its an alloy of Silver and copper usually, mixed to increase the strength, reduce the tendency to tarnish, reduce porosity for better casting, reduce firescale..... just to make silver a little better, overall.
These days though, just about ALL silver is sterling silver. Cuz its not like its any more expensive to buy sterling than it is to buy silver.
Who cares you know? I mean people have forks and spoons made out of this stuff. We're eating off of it. Its of very very low monetary value.
Invest your money in Gold, White Gold, and Platinum instead.

The person who sold you the necklace should tell you and be truthful about it, too. But if they don't say or sound dishonest, there should be a stamped number somewhere on the necklace like 725 or 925. If you can't tell, take it to a well-known jewelry store and have them check it for you. <3
