Call the stores that you think your products would sell in and ask them who their suppliers are (wholesalers or distibutors)

You need to learn the logistic model in your business are to find out how products are moved.

Typically - either manufacturers sell direct to consumers, to a wholesalers who than can either sell to consumers or to distributers. It varies from industry to industry.

Manufacturing companies usually have sales reps that call on either retail locations or on wholesalers. Wholesalers often have sales reps that call on retail locations and/or distributors.

You may also call some similar manufacturers and ask them how the move product - although they may not tell you.

Store owners like to talk about thier businesses - ask them - and learn about your market.

In order to use distribution, there has to be a demand for your product. If you ship a million dollars worth to a distributor and no one knows about it or wants it, it will just sit there and the distributor will eventualy want to return it.

Ditributors' sales pitch is something like we have Nike shoes at great prices and immediate delivery. They do not say, "We have Joe Blow shoes. They're better than Nike, cost less and last longer", because, the retailer will say, "My customers don't want Joe Blow shoes. They want Nike".

If you happen to be Nike, you can probably move your shoes through distribution.
