Learn to be comfortable in ur own skin...then you will be free.
Moving will not help, you can't runaway from yourself..because,
"Where ever u go...There u are". Learn who you are...read alot
of self -help books, talk to a therapist. It is the STRONG who
ask for help, and go get it...it is the WEAK who don't. That's if
you feel you really need it. Because it can only benefit you.
Everything else is only temporary, a distraction. Sooner or
later, u have to face yourself. EH?

Please don't take offense with this answer, but the problem with people is that they escaped from themselves a long long time ago. Perhaps this is an unfortunate misuse of words.

If people were more in touch with themselves they wouldn't need to drink or find something to escape into.

In psychology studies it would be useful to understand what is meant by Self in the most fundamental way.

Maybe the question could be "What do people use to escape from their ordinary lives?"

I believe there are temporary ways to escape and get away from your self. I use reading, dancing, sleeping, cleaning up. Anything that you enjoy and gets your mind off of you. Something that makes time fly and you hardly even notice it, that makes you push ur problems + worries into the back of you head.

dont turn to drinking or drugs because that could turn to addiction. Try meditating. Its really relaxing. Or if thats not your style lay down in your bed and just listen to your favorite music for a while. its calming

no one trys to escape themselve in being, but rather the social context or situation, or reality... your "person" refurs to your "person hood" meaning all the ideas, images, ect - that surround you life and define you, not your mind or body, things like school, work, family, friends, enemies, govern., society etc are the things that would cause someone to feel coerced in anyway... no person hates themselfs, but the things that tell them they should, or that they are inferiour..., every attempt of this escaping as listed are temporary, and in fact are making this mre unclear and harder for you... to escape these thing we would have to face them, or organize them so they are more managable... not to shove to the side while one gets drunk, or high...
but i would suggest, getting away in solitude focus yourself... or exercise, exercise is know to reduce stress...

Listen to music. Light some candles and take a hot bath. Or call my mom and listen, or visit an old person and let them talk and talk.
