I think the more appropriate question is:
marijuana, smart or STUPID?
It has recently been linked to increasing the likelihood of producing psychotic episodes. It also increases the likelihood of getting SCHIZOPHRENIA ealier in life in susceptible individuals. Personally, with that sort of risk, I wouldn't want to even touch the stuff (and thank God, I haven't :). The more you weigh the evidence, the more you see that drugs are bad news, period. See links below for the information.

The one piece of information that is missing from your soliloquy is the reason marijuana cannot gain legal status--blood marijuana level. Alcohol can be measured in one's system based on the time of consumption and the amount in conjunction with one's body weight. Marijuana, on the other hand, has a half life such that it is impossible to accurately determine when it was introduced into the system. I won't bore you with all of the details; the link below will give you a good idea how long 1 milligram of THC is present in the body.
So, the bottom line is, if you spent the day yesterday smoking in your recliner, drove to work this morning, were involved in a fatality accident, ended up in the hospital where they discovered THC in your blood workup, there is no legal way to prove that you were not under the influence from a recent smoke.
In other words, until there is a test in place to prove that someone is under the influence of recent inhalation so that I can sue the pants off them for killing one of my loved ones while in a marijuana stupor, I am all for keeping it illegal.

Its a gateway drug...it opens the flood gates for people to try all new things, looking for that "new and better high" its like a domino effect...usually starts with tobacco, then to alcohol, then to marijuana and so forth and so on. I work in parole in the prison system, and more than 1/2 my cases are people caught with drugs for the tenth time. when i get to speak with the inmate, they all tell me the drug use started with marijuana, and led to where they are now....coke, meth and heroin are the biggest. I definitely do not agree marijuana should be legal...then your looking at a world of trouble...it will get to the masses, and that means all masses...children included. I am just against it...I deal with people who have addiction problems everyday and its a scary sight.
And for people who say marijuana is used for medicinal use...thats a theory...an experiment. drugs are seperated in "schedules" 5 being the least harmful and 1 being the worst. Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug. schedules 1-3 have NO medicinal purposes. So the whole "marijuana for cataract" and cancer is only a scientific experiment..

Medical Marijuana is legal in some states and other states are jumping onto the band wagon. People are speaking up and we are quite loud. For now legal only to us medical people. I thank god everyday for it too!
Now for the "other" people who feel marijuana is not something that should be legal but as you pointed out alcohol, tobacco can be. For these people most of these kinds are hypocrites. Using drugs or medication from there kids, or friends is OK. Overusing weight loss pills, or overdosing on sleeping pills, getting drunk every night is fine. Just do not get it.....

Its all political and unconstitutional too. A person has a right to medicate themselves much less some one with terminal cancer having a right to use what ever brings relief or helps them ,with out being arrested .Here is another link I just found about the government covering up medical research done on pot I hadn't seen before .That makes glaucoma. relief to cancer patients and now this . What does it take to prove it has medicinal properties .Can some one show me some proven bad things it does .With the new evaporator it doesn't affect your lungs as cigarettes. Go to this link it shows more medicinal therapy it has our government has covered up .How many people with tumors could this maybe have saved

I see people who use it every day. Every one of them can not hold down a job very long and let their drugs prevent them from pursuing better jobs. I don't see how it really effects anyone else, though. I think it is a nasty habit as bad as smoking, really. I would not hang out with people who smoke pot because they seem to be exclusive to each other like children trying to get away with something. Plus their kids cant be stupid and not know what they are doing. But I HAVE seen people who abuse alcohol that DOES affect their families and their personalities. So if I were to choose which is worse, I would say alcohol.

Legalize Marijuana Now! And, grow it in Virginia where we used to grow tobacco, and make reasonable tax dollars from it. It won't hurt you ... it is not addictive biologically ... only psychologically ... and it might help that way too.
Don't ever take heroin ( it does come from terrorists ) or any form of cocaine or your moms' pills .. do smoke pot or make tea from it.
It won't make you into Donald Trump though ... thank God!
Yours very truly;
Jonnie
PS, I just read the the idiotic answer fron the prison guard. Grass didn't cause the prisoners problems they were hell bent for trouble anyway. For many sad reasons.
Bhang is the name for a tea in India that is made from marijuana and they have been drinking it for more than a thousand years.

Marijuana: Wrong! Want to go fry your brain be my guest, but when you get busted for selling don't ask for any sympathy! Face it, they are drug addicts!
What you say isn't EXACTLY the case:
DENVER — Voters here approved making Denver the first major city to legalize small amounts of marijuana, but the mayor warned that state law still makes possession of the drug illegal.
USA Today
So it really isn't legal, just as abortions are illegal in some states but Federal law trumps them!

Oh just legalize it, and take the liability for medical coverage away from insurance companies so they don't have to pay for smoke related diseases. Besides the government and the Federal Reserve would love the taxation on it

I think if it's not illegl, that's fine.
Some people actually need marijuana for medical reasons and it's probably better to be used legally in my opinion.
But there are of course people who use the drug for the wrong reasons and they abuse using it. And that's what I hate. If people can use it for good reasons, we probably don't need to talk about this issue.

It became criminalized back in the 30s, regarding the paper industry and Hearst magazines. If they made it legal now, it would put the alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical industries out of business (and they pay billions in tax dollars).
Of course it should be decriminalized--it never should have been criminalized in the first place. It was/is the greed of big businesses.
