We do live together and know that someday we will get married... will the law step in and try to get child support or insurance money from him?? I know he's the father and he will be on the birth certificate indefinitely. Him, me and the baby will all be living together.....? Help.

Why would you name your baby Michigan?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I will try. Since he is the father, he will be forced to pay child support by LAW until the baby is 18, no matter what.

Why would the law step in and make him pay child support, if he's living with you? I'm confused. If he's working and receives health benefits, his baby will be eligible to receive these benefits after the birth (he'll have to show the birth certificate). He'll have to check with his company's policies. You have a lot of planning to do, don't you?

It can get tricky. If the state ends up paying for anything for the baby (by way of support or insurance coverage), they they WILL try to get it back from the father. Honestly, for YOUR protection and your baby's, you should go to your county Friend of the Court and get their help with a child support order anyhow. Relationships end, people get flaky, and the child/children end up going without.

You don't need help, as long as you love the father and he loves you ... then you will both love the baby ... like the miracle that the baby is!

The miracle that life is!

The law won't step in at all ... we live in the United States of America. You are free to live your life and pursue happiness as you see fit!

If there are other problems I'll be glad to help .

With love;

The only way that the state can make him pay child support is if you two are no longer together and he is not paying child support and you go to the state welfare office to get AFDC or something like that.
As far as insurance goes. They will make him pay insurance if he makes enough money to do so and you are on the state medicaid.
I wouldn't worry about any of this unless the two of you split up.

Are you expecting to receive public assistance for the baby and have the father offer no support? He needs to support the child.

If you make a request this may happen. He will be liable to support his baby, particularly if he is the father. Even if he lives with you long enough and is not the father.

Not as long as he is supporting the baby and you are living in the same household. If you two ever split then you can file for it on behalf of the baby. Oh and by the way congradulations.
