Or can we change, and not repeat their mistakes ?

Yes! It is completely inevitable.

I happen to have had the greatest & coolest parents on the planet, so I have dibs there!

Actually--although I once would have cringed at the thought, I am now proud to be turning into my parents! They were/are so awesome in ways I only ever took for granted before.

As far as learning from their mistakes? I can say that I have done so as did they! And I know without a doubt that they also learned fromTHEIR parents' mistakes as well!

You can try, but the chances that you wouldn't turn out like them is pretty small, your parents just have WAY too much influence on you and your personality. If your parents have really mean or cruel personality that you just hate, then maybe it's possible to avoid it. It's really hard though, good luck!

No you are not just like your parents. You are similar because of what you were taught by them. Some even look very much like one or the other but even twins are not just like each other.

So much that you do that seems like your parents is like them because that is what they taught you even if they din not mean to. children learn by immitating their parents.

Geneticaly you are a mix of the two so you will have some of the same inherited issues. Beyond that it is up to you to deside what you want to be like. Yes you can deside for yourself and be what you want if you have the will to do so.

No. i didn't turn out like my mom or dad! Yippee!
My dad is a schizophrenic paranoid with severe delusions. his was all drug induced back in the 60's. Not to mention that he spent time in jail for intent to sale of maryjane!
Now as for my mom, she has a whole lot more personality than me. She is a teacher. Thank god I am not. My mother is a wonderful woman. But I am nothing like her. May look like her though. That is it.

We can change, especially if we're aware of their mistakes. It's not inevitable.

I was hoping not. But every time I turn around I catch myself saying something just like my mother and it really burns me up!

just because we have genes from our parents, it doesn't mean we are our parents. We are individuals. you can learn from your parents mistakes as well, we don't need to experience everything for ourselves to know not to do it, that's what makes us human.

Hopefully we take the best of what each of them has to offer and apply it to our lives. Unfortunately, I hear my mother's voice coming out of me when I'm talking to my child and it isn't always the positive things that she said!

No, definitely not. I will never end up like my parents, I know I won't. Not a chance.
