long term domestic violence effects?

child was a witness of the violence and on occassion experienced some physical abuse. mostly mental and emotional abuse.

began at age 8 and lasted for 5 1/2 years. female child.

With that long of a duration in a violent atmosphere, as well as "occasional" victim of physical abuse, will always affect children, emotionally and often, physically, even tho' the actual physical abuse didn't result in lasting physical harm. Untreated emotional abuse can actually harm the nervous system; develop into psychosomatic illnesses and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder); many believe even CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is developed from such chronic environments; can inhibit healthy personality development, create speech difficulties, dermatological distress. OR, if the effects are suppressed, most often will emerge later in life! If you yourself--or your child-- has experienced this, and are experiencing lots of stress in your own life; are accident prone; continually choose destructive people in your life; all forms of addictions--it is really worth every amount of $$'s (medical insurance; Medicare and some therapists even accept Medicaid!) to assess the basis of these conditions!! Also, of course, good physical assessments and good nutrition is a must!

This child needs to get some serious counseling. In my opinion mental abuse can be one of the worst, because those negative words can stick forever in your brain, leading to a decreased self-worth. Any abuse will effect a person's health and well-being, and can carry over to their adult life causing difficulty in relationships with others. Abuse needs to be reported to the police or child protection if it is still going on, it needs to be stopped.

Well this is an all to often occurence in the family home.Where some jumped up Hitler believes he has an absolute role to rule.
Obviously you must do everything in your power to protect your child.
Problem with these despots is they are answerable to no one.for thier cruelty,as they have no conscience.Only ego.
Leave the creap,and file a restraining order against him.Look a shelter would be better than a miserable existance,Talk with your daughter.
