I understand that he is a vet and he makes a lot of money. They can't justify paying him as much as they do when they don't use him enough. But whose fault is that anyways? They are the ones not writing the character int he story lines. I would love to see a good Alan storyline. How can they fire a Quartermaine? They are the foundation of the show. It's ridiculous. They are the history of GH.

I think the network are under increasing pressure to trim daytime budgets in light of declining viewers. That being said, I think that the reason viewership has declined is because the writers and producers do not respect the intelligence of their audience or the history of their programs. I stopped watching General Hospital a few years ago when the majority of the core characters (Felicia, Luke, Alan, Monica, Bobbi, Mac, etc.) were pushed to the background or left the show entirely in favor of inexperienced younger actors. New actors used to be hired when the storyline called for it, and the writers were usually good at getting us to care about new characters by tying their story to veteran actor's characters/stories. Now there are days I turn GH on and don't recognize anyone for several minutes.

Soaps need their veteran actors to be able to continue telling multi-generational stories. Stuart Damon is a part of that history for General Hospital, and it's a shame the powers-that-be at ABC can't see that.

P.S. To the Daytime executives at ABC :

Of course veteran soap actors make more money...they CAN ACT! You get what you pay for!!

Wow I didn't realize they fired Alan. What about Monica? How are they going to keep her on the show. I used to watch GH relentlessly in the 80's/90's. Loved the Anna/Duke/Robert and Sonny/Brenda era's. I guess I'm old now since the show seems boring to me now with it's focus more on the young characters. That's too bad about Stewart Damon though. I remember when Felicia left the show and I thought that was a wise choice.

OMG! I didn't know that, I missed yesterdays and part of todays show, I can't believe that Alan could be gone, especially for a reason like that, and I agree that they could do so much more with his character, he has the capability, and with his past storylines, there are so many directions they could go.

I suggest if you feel that strongly, write and email the writers and make some waves.
