I'm teaching myself to play guitar, and I want to learn the strumming pattern(s) that Johnny Cash often used. (Listen to "Man in Black" or "Walk the Line" to see what I mean.) Can somebody tell me how to do that or where to learn? Thanks, everybody.

That's called flat picking. Hold your pick between your thumb and fore finger and and only let a little bit of the tip touch the strings. Take your time with self learning. I did it and it takes time but you will get it. Remember to listen to alot of music and play along with your favs. Have fun with it that's the most important thing. Johnny Cash was a great guitar player, so remember if you get frustrated that your not him your you
