What do you think is the most painful, terrible emotional experience that a person can go through? I've heard people say that it's the death of your child, and I think that I agree with that. I'm not trying to be cruel or anything; I legitimately want some opinions and observations on this subject, both from men and women. Thank you for your thoughts.

I really hate trying to compare one person's pain to another person's.

I don't remember the exact quote but Victor Frankl, who spent time in a Nazi concentration camp, wrote a book called "Man's Search for Meaning." In it, one of the things he says is that basically, all suffering is equal in the sense that we all have painful times in our lives and that our human experience of pain is what unites us. We all get a right to our own pain. I find it amazing that someone who went through something that would obviously be so awful would be able to come out of it saying something so profound.

If I were pressed, I'd say... yeah, my guess is that losing a child would be worst.

I would have to say that it would depend on your background and life. For many women and men I think losing a child would be the worst, because that's the thing that they are most attached to in the world.

However, it depends on where in your life you are. As a teenager your emotions are very tender and a spurn by a group, a bullying situation, or a broken heart may very well be the WORST emotional pain you have ever experienced at that time.

I don't think our body logs very vivid memories of the worst moment, so when we experience a terrible loss or situation it becomes the worst because that is what we are experiencing at that time. I think it would be impossible to look at all of the painful experiences over our life and define a worst.

If you want to generalize by emotion then certainly I think loss is up there. But what about betrayal or guilt? What about people who are kidnapped and tortured or even just mugged?

In the end I would say that the worst emotional pain would be a result of experiencing that which you fear the most.

I think it is the death of the person you love the most, whether it be a child, parent, or significant other/spouse.

It probably depends on your age at the time of the person's death. If you are not old enough to have a child, then that point is mute. If you have no children, then the worst would probably be the death of your parents or your spouse.

The worst soreness it incredibly is obtainable for somebody to go through is often nerve soreness. I even have complicated interior of sight soreness Syndrome (CRPS) wherein this is the main painful element that i've got even long previous via actually it is so painful that i won't be in a position to even describe the soreness ok, yet people who be stricken by nerve soreness it purely takes some words to describe it and that they understand what it feels like, yet all i will tell it relatively is that the worst soreness you may go through is nerve soreness which would be everywhere on your physique.

Well, having your heart break is very emotionally painful, It happened to me last July, and its Feb and I still cry about it. It was my first real heart break and I actually had to get counseling because the way it ended....it was very traumatic. I an bet that the death of a very close loved one can be much worst then a "romantic" heartbreak, but I have yet to exprience something like that. I'm just answering by my personal experience.

I think losing a loved one is the worst emotional pain someone could go through wether its a child, spouse, sibling or parent. Death is a horrible thing especially when it happens to young children.

The worse possible emotional experience for me was getting beat with a baseball bat by my husband then watching him shoot himself in the head while standing two feet in front of me. That was ten years ago and it still haunts me. I think that any unexpected death of someone you love, (I don't have children so I don't know about that), is a painful emotional experience. Even worse if you are witness to it.

I am going to list the emotional pains in order one 1 being the least and five being the worst. Some of them didn't happen to me...but i think they would be the worst for me.

1.Being betrayed by your best friend (s)

2.being replaced by someone better or failing in something important for me.

3.Finding out that my stupid as* boyfriend is cheating on me.

4.Having one of my limbs, parts of my body amputated, losing one of my five senses. Being terrible sick.

5.The loss of a family member (which still hasn't happened yet, thank God!)

I have lost two great grandparents, two grandparents, a god-mother, a cousin, various other family members, and many of friends, but I don't think I would like to imagine the pain that I would endure if I lost my daughter. I would be an emotional wreck than if my husband passed. But no where near as bad as far as my daughter is concerned.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of children. I don't see children in my future so I can't give you an opinion.

The worst case scenario is causing the death of your child due to reckless behavior like driving while under the influence.

Ever heard of the guy who was racing another driver? Another car merged onto the highway and he slammed into their car. He was injured, but mobile. He got out of the car to check the passengers in the car he hit. He recognized his mother in the driver's seat and her elderly friend. They both died at the scene. He was sent to jail and had to live with the fact that he killed his mother. His father was left without a lover and a son.
