The GOP ignores the will of the people and are bleeding our nation to death in Iraq.
Both the GOP and the Communists could care less about the will of the people (and seem to almost gloat in flouting the will of the public).

Finally, someone smart enough to make a comparison other than Vietnam. Kudos to you.
However, there is a big difference between the Soviet's experience and ours. The Soviets were in Afghanistan for years, and never prevailed over the Taliban. We wiped out practically the entire Taliban force that opposed us. The rest fled into the hills.
Remember one thing about the "will of the people": a President is supposed to be a statesman. He needs to do what is right, rather than what is popular. If the President pandered to the fleeting will of the (often) misinformed general public, our nation would never prosper. Keep in mind that the President is privy to information that you or I can't even begin to imagine. If you ever think the President (this President, or any other) is making a huge blunder, just ask yourself what he might know that you don't.

I would say it is a fair comparison. I would like to point out though what Afghanistan became once the Soviets left. This is beyond all doubt the future of Iraq if we were to leave today.

The coffers of the government must not spent on a single country that was already subdued and its dictator already executed. US must already withdraw from Iraq and let its people govern themselves.
