To copy you need a free program called shrink. You can download it from afterdawn.com.Then you need a copy of Nero.I use 6 ultra. The great thing about that is most burners come with a copy. Then when you have both you simply go into shrink and push the open disk tab. When that is done you push the back up tab. Then finally you burn.If you go into shrink's options you can select for it to work with Nero automatically. Then it will do everything on its own.The higher the speed for writing to a DVD,the better that burner will be.Takes me all of 30min.

Ask the salesman at the store you plan to get your DVD burner what they recommend.
As far as copying a "copy protected" DVD, that is illegal and you shouldn't do it.
