Hogwash, Poppycock and Balderdash!! Also known as Hoooey!
It is the misguided notion that the universe is too complex to have just happened all by itself and that there must be the hand of a divine creator behind it all. It's just another name for Creationism.

It is a non-scientific argument against evolution offered by creationists who want it taught in schools on equal footing with evolution.
It is an attempt to show that life as we know it, could *only* be the product of an intelligent designer (although they strategically avoid using the word "God" as this would reveal the religious agenda behind it). However, it's ideas are extremely half-baked at best.
Almost no scientist takes it seriously ...and the reason proponents want it in schools is to leave students with the impression that scientists are indeed undecided on this issue ... in other words, the goal is to leave biology students confused.
The reason it is a bad explanation of anything is that an explanation is a description of complex things in terms of something simpler. Intelligent design does the opposite. It explains complex things in terms of something *more complex* ... the designer, who must, by definition, be more complex, and have purposes far more mysterious, than anything it explains. That is why Intelligent Design fails miserably as an explanation for *anything*.
And it is wholly unnecessary, as evolution explains the current evidence fantastically.

it's basically an argument proving the existence of God and against evolution saying that the systems in the world are the result from purposeful design of an intelligent being rather than evolution and natural selection or by chance

It says that the evolution and big-bang theory are wrong, and that God created the universe. But I believe that couldn't God have created the process of evolution or purposely setup the big bang?
Can science and God coexist?
Am I just a crazy human being?

the belief that the universe is so complex that something such as a god or gods must have designed it to be that way.
