I am NOT stingy...after I answer a question I always go back and read the other answers and STAR THUMBS UP AWAY! There are a lot of great answers on the questions...the ones that are just plain ignorant/just wanting the two points might get my thumbs down award!!!!

Just because I answer a question doesn't mean it's a good question. When someone is obviously asking us to do his homework for him, that doesn't deserve a star. When someone asks a question that he could have researched himself (dictionary, encyclopedia, Google) and gotten more information sooner, that isn't worth a star. When someone asks a question to which he'd have gotten the answer if he'd thought for a few minutes (like 'what's 75% of 80?'), that doesn't deserve a star. When people ask questions about which celebrity is prettier/more handsome, or whether you wad or fold your toilet paper, that doesn't deserve a star.
On the other hand, thought-provoking questions, such as asking what we'd to do end world hunger, or interesting questions about aspects of science, music, etc. which don't often get discussed, those do deserve stars. And those are the types of questions I *do* star.

Maybe they feel like they might be sucking up for best answer. I would never do that though.
