no they will not force you to stay!!!!!! geez. and if its a guy request a female, and if they dont give you one, then request female nurse, an if they refuse than WALK OUT!!! your body and YOURS only. they aren't going to push you onto the table and open your legs. that's assault. there isn't really anything to be embarrasst about. those docs look at 100 crotches a day, and its their job to be professional about it. they aren't going to laugh or go outside and tell their colleges about it. that's illegal. And seriously you CANNOT surprise them. they have seen EVERYTHING imaginable. every sickness, disease, deformaty, whatever. everything. But like i said earlier its YOUR BODY AND YOURS ONLY. if the doctor does something that makes you uncomfortable its your duty to tell them to STOP. if they dont then get dressed and walk out. besides you sound young, and unless your getting birth control pills, they probably wont give you a pelvic. But you dont HAVE to go. if you dont want to go then dont. if you get tricked , then get out of the car and walk home or something. its not a law to go to the gyno. i think you will be ok though. remember if anything makes you uncomfortable YOU HAVE THE RIGHT to walk out. they cannot force ou to do ANYTHING. and if it will make you feel better then you can have your mom in the room if you want.

remember. YOUR BODY AND YOUR ONLY. nobody has the right to touch it without your permission

Rather than face the awkwardness of waiting until you're at the office for the appointment, call ahead and discuss your concerns. But even if you wait until you're there, no one can force you to stay if you're not comfortable.

But having been to both male and female gynecologists for over 25 years, the comfort level has more to do with their personality than whether they're a man or a woman. I have had positive experiences (well, as "positive" as you can get under the circumstances!) and not so great experiences with both. In fact, the worst experience ever was with a woman. She didn't care about my modesty and she was not gentle at all. I cramped and spotted for the next 36 hours. My best experience was with a male nurse practioner. He was very gentle and tried to make me more comfortable by chatting with me about my family, plans for the summer, etc.

So, either way - try to remember they're professional and they won't touch you in a way that is anything other than clinical.

If you called and made the appointment, you should have specified to them that you did not want a male doctor. I would call the clinic you are going to and express your fears and see what they can do for you. I had a male gyno for well over 20 years and have a new doc now because the first one retired and had absolutely no problems with either of them. A nurse was always in the room during the exam and I was always treated with respect. I would call and express your fears and see what they say.

My first gyno was a man. He was actually the same doctor who delivered me as a baby. I was uncomfortable at first but he was really nice and there was always a female assistant in with him as well. Now I have a woman doctor because I moved out of the area. I really wish I had my male doctor back. He was way more gentle during the procedure and actually made me feel way for comfortable cause he would talk to you and destract you so it made it less stressful. I think you just really have to find a doctor you like and one thats works well for you and meets the needs you would like to have in a doctor.

why dont you call the office and ask if the doctor is a man or woman. you can always request a woman doc. many many women prefer that and many docs understand this. it is your body. take control.

also remember docs are professionals . they dont see you in a way that you think. they've seen everything already. dead ones, live ones. screwed up ones.

You can call the office where you have the appointment and ask
if the doctor assigned to you is male or female. If male, tell them
you want a female doctor. Change your appointment if you have to,they are use to this request and will work with you.

There is no reason you can't see a woman gynecologist. Call (or have your mother call) and ask for an appointment with a female gynecologist. My wife has gone to both and usually prefers a female gynecologist so they will not be offended.
