What could make my leopard gecko, about 1 1/2 years old, start burying under the carpet in the tank? It just started doing this a few days ago. I have a wet hide and a dry hide in the tank. It has a tree to climb on, calcium powder, live crickets, a water pool/dish, and artificial plants. It looks healthy, fat tail, eating like normal. I have had it for about a year and its tank mate is about the same age, same circumstance and has never done this before. They get along great, I think they are both females. I am afraid it will get stuck, hurt, something. HELP!

Umm, maybe it's just discovered a new place to explore/hide? They are nocturnal, so it may be darker there than in the hides. And if you have an under tank heating pad, it could be warmer.

Since your geckos are over 6 months old, they should be able to be sexed reliably. You can check this link to make sure they're bith female: http://www.reptilecare.com/leopardgender.htm. If they are males rather than females, I'd say the one is looking to avoid the other.

Well, first make sure the corners, or where ever they get under there, is pressed down. If you have an undertank heater it might be trying to get to the heater, and it might be too cold. Try putting in a red heating lamp to warm his tank up the temp should be around 78-90 degrees, and you say he has a fat tail. When you say fat do you man he has like a bulb like roundness on an area of his tail or just a nice normally shaped big tail? if it has a bulb like area to it it has lost its tail and you might want to visit you exotic animal vet. to see if you can do anything special for it to help the healing. IT MIGHT BE SHEDDING TOO, look up on th einternet about shedding habits, hope i helped
