What happened to free speech, what happened to living in a free country and how far will this political correctness go? People bash Christians all the time and nothing is done about it. There is never a public appology.

NBA is playing chicken little.
Point is--These over paid super Stars won't stand up for each other.
Each a dozen refused to play---then a stance would be made..

But they won't...

One should be able to state their view--on either side without fear of punishment.

As a FORMER player he is no longer under any contract with any NBA team and thus isn't protected by the player's union. Essentially this just makes him any other person in this world like you or me that has a non union job. If you have a non union job it would be the same situation. You can't just say whatever you want to whoever you want. It's your job to project your company or whoever you're representing in a good light. If you don't you'll get fired. Tim Hardaway got fired. This has nothing to do with free speech, he didn't get fired from an actual job. The NBA just doesn't want anything to do with him and that's their right as a corporation. This might be an unfair comparison because what he did isn't nearly as bad but would the NBA let a murderer represent them if they didn't have too? because they don't have to let Tim Hardaway represent them.

Freedom of speech only guarantees that you will not be put into prison for saying something. It does not guarantee that you will not be fired for saying something.

Do you expect a CEO of a company to start calling homosexuals f@gs or african-americans the N word without being fired?

Read and understand your constitution more closely.

Respectfully, this was worse than free speech issues. It involved gay bashing and clear discrimination, and that shouldn't be encouraged with a trip to an all-star game. How would you like it if he bashed what you are?

Some sort of action had to be taken. I believe the ruling was appropriate.
