I have heard bad things about this area but thinking of taking a job there, and then living in Quincy. What do you think about Brockton?

Thanks for giving me the tip about rush hour traffic!!!! :-)
Luckily though I will be working graveyard shift so that will not pose a problem. I'm loving all of these answers so please keep them coming!

For those of you wondering about my occupation, I work in hospitals as a Cat Scan Tech . . . a type of imaging exam. Wow Brockton is sounding pretty rough, maybe i wont go there! Im going to interview anyway but if its sounding as bad as this I may not accept anything.

If you could get a job elsewhere, i would suggest doing so. Brockton isnt the best place to work or live. They are the fourth biggest city in Mass behind Boston, springfield and worcester. Crime is HUGE, murder has been up in recent years, along with huge drug related crimes. I personally hate going into brockton because it is a very dirty/slummy area of mass. Work in south boston, on the south shore, or on cape cod.
As far as the nice houses go, i dont know what this lady is talking about, she must of googled brockton, ma. There arnt nice areas in brockton, there are nice areas outside of brockton but not within.

Brockton sucks. I had relatives who moved there from Boston, and it went right downhill from there. Crime was high, assaults common. I lived in Worcester, which is a notoriously tough place and THEY even looked down on Brockton. I guess it depends on what you do for a living but if it's social services in any way or even education, run like hell!
I am sure there are nicer neighborhoods there but I never saw any.
My kids had a swim meet there once and someone got robbed.
Quincy itself is ok- good and bad areas, but lots of beach. Look into Braintree: it's close to Quincy, not far from Brockton, affordable and is nicer. Weymouth is ok too and housing is cheap since the base closed.

Working in Brockton should not pose a problem, but Quincy is a little distance to drive to work because of the rush hour traffic. It is a disaster if you would be driving to work.. I think you might like Randolph in which to live.
There have been several murders in Brockton, so I would not walk the streets at night.
I have a son that lives in Randolph and travels to Brockton during day.

I've never lived in Brockton but have been there and I don't think that there's anything wrong with this city. Not sure what bad things that you're referring to however, with a population of approximately 96,000 people, they have parks, a symphony, many sporting venues (home to "World Champions," Rocky Marciano and Marvelous Marvin Hagler), recreation, good schools as well as nice housing. You can also find ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity there.
I really think Brockton is a nice community.
Of course, many communities have less desirable neighborhoods within them, just do some research on where you choose to reside. I think that the commute would be a hassle as well as more costly. Visit the area and see for yourself.
Good luck to you!

Well, I know a few people who live there. They will admit it is not the nicest place. However, I guess it depends what line of work you are in, and the situations. For example- yes crime there is very high. But will you be dealing with the public? Will your car be left in a somewhat empty lot where it could be broken into, or will you have garage parking? Really, it would be best to see the exact location and specifics for yourself before you turn down what could be a good job. But if you had another offer in another city, I'd really think about that one instead.

All I know is that two of the most famous boxers in history were born there - Rocky Marciano & Marvin Hagler. So it's probably a pretty rough place.

that's were given some outstanding residential aspects, inspite of this that's were provided that's nasty aspects. really commonly used of a "mill city" after the turbines died. drugs and a gang ingredient in the "no longer so outstanding" aspects. save your automobile locked and continuously stay cognizant of your environment.
