Yup. If you're under 18, you're still living and using "public" things.
Did you pay for the computer? Do you pay for your own internet service?
If the answer is no to either one of those questions, legally you can't do a darn thing about it.

Stop using your step moms computer and internet. You should be monitored, no offense but "decision making" isn't the strong point of 14-18 year olds. in fact, its important that your parents monitor everything there are to many perverts lurking after people just like you, and statistics say your age group has a poor track record with making friends that are perverted 50 year old rapists.

There is no age limit on the ability to read e-mails. Companies always read there employees e-mails. Governments request and read e-mails through e-mail services such as Yahoo and AOL. You have some protection if you only use your personal computer that you purchased and if you are not committing a crime. Otherwise be careful.

As long as you are a minor living at home, your parents have access to everything you own. It is a parents responsibility to keep track of what their kids are doing, who they are spending time with, talking to.
You might want to keep that in mind.

Absolutely legal. And if someone 13 is freaking out about it, she probably has good reason.
