i asked the same question and somebody gave me this amazing site were it said she will die but then they will bring her back. also another point as somebody brought up the Show is named after her last name. is she is going to die they'll have to end the series. also at the very end of that episode they showed in "heaven" i guess with the two other guys who got killed off the show and they told her she was died. but... no worries she'll be revived! I LOVE THIS SHOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Yes, the writers stabbed her with their wicked ink pens and drowned her in the river.
Of course they will resurrect her on the next show and kill her mother instead, blood suckers. They can't get enough of this killing.
I have written this a lot the past couple of days but for you I will explain it once more.
Meredith has to die to talk to her mother and tell her she loves her. She didn't get the chance to say that to her the last time she was clear headed and that is what this is all about.
So they both die and Meredith comes back to life thinking they are both going to live but she is wrong.
Tragic and life altering allowing Meredith to do what she wants from now on because she is no longer tied to her mother's condition.

She'll come back from the dead and have a religious conversion. In the TV business this is called "Jumping the shark" done when a shows ratings are going down the tubes and need viewers. Named after Fonzi on Happy Days jumping a tank full of sharks on his motor-cycle to garner the interest of the idiotic. It seems to have worked considering all the interested idiots on Yahoo Answers.....
Competition with American Idol is the motivator here.

Ok, but what if her mom comes out of her Alzheimer's and Meredith dies(or is really messed up because of the accident)!! What if the show is really supposed to be named after her mom?! Why else would they change the plot and make her mom come in and out of the Alzheimer's?

I think she's gonna die for a couple of minutes to talk to the dead people like Denny and then she will come back to life.
