I am going to assume that you did this by accident and without intent. Because on occasion I will use this method to check out the performance of a clutch. It will not hurt if you do it without a lot of acceleration or by accident. And emergency brakes are less effective in reverse. Many years ago I had a 1948 Chevy and the emergency brakes froze up on me one winter so I had to go in reverse around a block to unfreeze them and it didn't hurt them.

You sit still or drive with the parking brake on. When you apply your parking brake always put it on with enough force to keep the wheels from moving even if you hit the gas.

lamo...go in a parking lot and try it.. is the same as having a foot on the break peadl...well very similar....Lets
ok adding some after reading other answers. Will only wear breaks down if you do it often or for a length of time. Will only warp drum or disc depending on vehicle type if you drive for a fair distance with it on. Some of these guys have no clue what they are talking about...

could damage the master brake cylinder or the rear brakes be careful not to do it. it won't happen just on the first time but doing it again and again would surely make you spend a fortune getting it done up

you will burn up your rear brakes pretty quick, your car will decelerate faster than usual when you let off of the gas, your fuel effiency will degrade, and you could warp your rear brake rotors.

in short terms, its not horrible if you do it accidentally for a very short period of time (like a mile or two)

It wears out your brake linings/pads, reduces pickup and increases fuel consumption. Nothing serious than this will happen.

you will end up eating your rear brakes up with a quickness and you will smell them getting VERY hot from the friction. not a good suggestion. unless you like buying lots of brake pads/shoes
