Its from the steam sitting in the vent. Its a mold but all you have to do is take the inside cover off and wash it out once a month with clorox. It wont hurt anything unless you dont clean it. good luck

I heard on Good Morning America to use a package of lemon kool aid in the dishasher to clean it. I tried it and it worked on rust stains. You may want to give it a try. Just put it in and run it through the cycle.

it's most likely mold. you should possibly call a technician, because it is probably not doing it's proper job and therefore growing mold. or you could pour clorox into the detergent recepticles and run your dishwasher. this will temporarily fix the problem.

it is from putting dishes in it when there is still food on them.
you can probably just replace it rather than clean it.
