If you are getting an organic fertilizer you should read the label very carefully. Some are labeled as meeting federal standards only for lawns or soccer fields. Those are made from organic waste products that may include heavy metals or other trace toxic elements. They are not a problem in casual contact but if you are going to grow food plants that can incorporate those elements during their growth then they should be avoided.

If you plan on eating what you grow. I would suggest using finished compost from either you own compost pile or buying some. It may be labelled 100% organic compost or humus
