If there had been only one gender in life, what do you think it would have been? male or female?

It would have been hermafrodite. We would have both genders and we could use them in any way we wanted. So, everybody would be happy.

Females...because, like someone already said (as always, someone gets here before I do and has the same idea! Oh well... ♥) there was that Komodo dragon who got herself pregnant...I mean, it'd just make sense for a world full of females; after all, men aren't equipped to carry the babies, and we all start out as females anyway.

However, this proposes a question-would we reproduce the same way? Would we only need one person to reproduce? If this happened, genes would never be passed (everyone would have the same genes as their parent), the genetic structure of the species as a whole would never change, and we would never evolve-if some weather (like another ice age, we'll say) caused the need for us to evolve, we couldn't do it because our genetics would just stay the same. We'd be stuck in a genetic rut. I'm just saying...

Female definitely, when was the last time a man had a baby.
There was a recent instance of a female Kamodo dragon, in the zoo in Manchester England, who impregnated herself, laid the eggs, and all five eggs hatched. It was proved through DNA that she was the only parent. There had never been a male Kamodo at the zoo.

Male, because women are not anatomically suited to reproducing (i.e. they don't have a 'stick') therefore they could only reporduce if they squirted out their reproducing stuff like a fish

female because we all start off as females. what happens is that the ovaries drop and become our testicles and such so we become male.
