I shrink in size every time I put my foot in my mouth. If only the universe would come along. That way I wouldn't feel embarrassed anymore right?

Water,as it's cooled shrinks in size.
At 4 degrees Centigrade it is at it's densest as it cool further it expands or earth would be covered with ice to the bottom of every ocean.

No. The individual parts would shrink but sinse they are not connected the total size of the universe stays the same.

nothing actually shrinks in size, the particles just become closer together, and you can't always apply the same physics to small things as large things, and I'm not sure what you mean

The force of "dark energy" and "dark matter" is forcing the universe apart, more than the thermal effects. To the best of my knowledge, the exestiance of the two have not yet been proven, but I believe that it made sense mathematically. The answer to you question is no, b/c other forces are too powerful.

In a certain range of temperatures, water expands when it is cooled, so that ice take more space than liquid water and floats.

Maybe. The universe is said to be expanding. Then, as many physicists say, it will retract. But who really knows for sure?

Ice expands when it cools. Sure, most of the elements on the periodic table of elements have that, but plasma is a completly different thing. It's not like your balls.

The Universe? No I don't think so because Space hasn't got any particles in it. (At least that I'm aware of).
