Ok moms, i get to go for my 18 week ultrasound on tuesday and they instructed me to drink 30-40 oz of water an hour before the ultrasound. I know this is to push your uterus out so they can see better and i know i was able to do it when i was pregnant with my son 2 years ago but i dont think i have the ...ahem...bladder control that i used to. i already have trouble sneezing and coughing while maintaining full control. Does anyone have any tips on how to get through this gracefully?

A maxi pad and drink the last 15oz 30min before the ultrasound. I was so uncomfortable and then they told me that my bladder was too full so I had to let a little out. A little! Are you kidding me?!? It was worth it though.

I always drank the water right before I went in for the ultrasound and they usually made me go to the toilet so they could see as my bladder was sooooooo full. the only problem was I wasnt allowed to let everything out, I had to stop half way through, now that is hard.

That is very strange. I have two children, ages 2 1/2 and newborn, and for neither one did I have to drink lots of water for their 18-20 week ultrasounds.

The only ultrasounds where I had to drink all that water was when they were monitoring a cyst that I have on my ovary. Did you specify when you made the appt that it was prenatal? Maybe they just heard pelvic ultrasound and didn't realize? I don't know, but that's been my experience.

I have two kids and I had at least 5-6 ultrasound with my son last year and was never told I had to drink water before hand...I`m really not sure what to tell you but I feel for you, I think I would pee my pants trying to hold all that water in!!! Call your doctor and ask him just to make sure..Good luck!!

I am 35 weeks and have had around 8 and the only thing i was told was before my 3d was to drink plenty of water the 3days leading up to my u/s so that i was very well hydrated... I cannot bear to hold my bladder its painful and my genetic place told me that they never make anyone drink like that before an u/s I guess the machines these days arent like they used to be!!!!
if i were you, id just make sure i was hydrated a few days leading up to and enjoy your u/s

My doc told me 1 liter. They only took one pic with a full bladder, then let me go to the bathroom and come back and finish the ultrasound.
