Even before I saw you name some Devils I was going to say Brian Gionta. He's small for a hockey player but is scoring at quite a great pace the last two years. Yet you never here about him -- except for a SportsCenter highlight when he's scoring another key goal.
Oh yeah, I have another reason for Gionta. He was great when he brought the Stanley Cup to Rochester, NY, a few years back. He brought it around town with a smile on his face the whole time. And when it was our turn to meet him and see the Cup up close, he was very polite, signed an autograph for my then 2-year-old and then posed with the Cup. Imagine doing that for 8 hours straight and still greeting everyone with a smile.
Brian Gionta did, and it makes me smile every time he scores another goal.

im going to have to say Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins. He is having a good year on the first line along with wingers Murray and Axelsson and can give the Bruins the fire they need at center since they traded Thorton to the Sharks last year. Also the whole Nashville Predators team, being able to hold off the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville could b the cup champ this year now that they have more fire power since they added Petr Forsberg.

I'm a big Devils fan but I'm sure there are underrated players on other teams as well...
But for the Devils, I think Gionta is the most underrated just because he doesn't have the typical frame for a big-time goal scorer. He quietly had almost 50 goals last season!

Steve Sullivan is the most underrated player in the NHL right now, especially with the success of the Predators. Consistent scorer, plays the powerplay and penalty kill well and always has a decent +/-, which is a very underrated category.

You mention all of those Devils and don't mention the most underrated Devil-John Madden-probably the best PK man in the league.
I would have to say Yanic Perreault-best face off man in the NHL and couldn't even find a team at the start of the year.

Thomas Vanek from Buffalo. He has 29 goals, 27 assists, and a rating of +30 (highest among forwards), and he is only a second year player. However, people don't notice his exceptional talent and they overlook his contribution to the Sabres organization.

Jordan Staal without a doubt. Great Speed on defense and offense. He is a player with size speed and natural hockey talent with over 20 goals this year! His brother gets a lot more hype and I think Jordan has him beat on goals now.

Brodeur is the best player in the league . If he does not win the MVP this year (the Vezina is a given) , He is the most underrated.
