you can post an ad in the "etc" section on www.craigslist.org

there are freelance jobs posted there, you can post and find out what the going rate is and how it works with a ghostwriter.

You can find a freelance writer to ghost write the book. When I was in college I worked as a ghost writer and I was paid $10-$12 per hour. I did interviewing, research, and writing.

I would suggest placing an ad for a ghostwriter on a website like craigslist or postaroo.

No- Any old writer WON'T do, and most wouldn't--it's not the story they want to tell. It is your story, and I certainly understand that you feel intimidated if you've never tackled a project like this. However, contacting the writing programs at your local universities may serve you in two ways: 1. you may find a consultant who could work WITH you on the project, rather than FOR you; or 2. you may end up taking a class or two and simply doing the job yourself.

I've been asked to work on projects like yours while in graduate school. I've even referred people on to my friends. One friend is working on a project where he asked for a percentage (20% of royalties made from sales). The book has yet to be published (hahahaha, maybe that says more about him than his subject) and he has yet to make anything from hundreds of hours of work.

I only work as an editor and the standard rate is approximately $8-$10 / page.

I did a simple search for "writing memoirs" on yahoo and came up with a bazillion hits, including many online classes offered by great writing programs.

I agree with the first person who answered.

I think writing it yourself [regardless of your abilities] would be better because even if you continuously elaborate your situation/life to someone else, they are not going to be able to write it as well as the person who experienced it.

If you asked me to write about the Holocaust, I can't do that no matter how much research I did on it. I can't put the feeling and emotion that I need.

But if you really want it to be a biography then I honestly think you can just find anyone who likes writing. Every author has had a first book.

Why not write the book yourself? That way the experience would be first hand rather than by someone who has never been in your shoes.
