Is it because they think they're the only race in the entire history of our country to ever have to endure hardship?

I'm not saying there should be a white history month because, like you said, there is plenty of white history that is common knowledge. I'm talking about the history of other minorities.

OK, so you proved me wrong

Whoopdy-do for you.

Nonetheless, I doubt very many people at all know about the other months.

No, I guess it was to honor them and teach people about good things that Black people actually accomplished because at one point no one knew that Black people did anything positive. If the government or whoever came up with Black history month said no more it would be a huuuge deal so I guess that are just keeping it around now to prevent an uproar.

Well if anyone ever payed attention to history classes. The first actually slaves, came from whites. Mother and daughters well children too. Were traded and sold. But then some time progressed and it was harder to do so. So thats when blacks and other races were traded as slaves! Yes hardship sucks. Black history month is just a month for awareness. So we actually pay attention to what happend. I mean martin Luther king, Rosie parks, Malcolm x, George Washington carver. They all did something to revolutionize America. We do have so many days honoring whites Or what i would like to say more as AMERICANS! Labor day, memorial day, presidents day, valentines day, easter, Christmas need i go on? I mean honestly what more do you want? I am white! So i can say this. We have a white president, so many other white people in the house and not alot of other races. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? Cant people just have pride in being an American! I dont give a damn about race. What about the troops? Two freaking days to honor are troops WOW wheres the troop united we stand month or something?

Not all but some white peole can be very ingnorant and this question is definately one!

If you knew anything about Black History Month you'd know that it was your people THE WHITE MAN who gave us this month.

We don't need February to celebrate the histories of our black community. We celebrate it 365 days a year!

If you don't like Black History month the how abou tyou leave America every February so you won't have to hear about it!

White History is all we learn in school and 1 little paragraph about blacks and it's mostly about slavery!

Believe it or not whites were slaves too. Mayebe you should search your own history and stop worrying about what we do with our blessed history.

Remember either Hilary Clinton or Obama Will become the next president either way it will be joy for the black community! Get Bush and all the other crooked *** people out of office!

It's sad that there has to be a month for this reason, especially since black people have made so many major contributions that are ignored or claimed by the white race as their own. The first man to successfully complete a blood transfusion, Dr. Drew, was BLACK! The first woman aviator, Bessie Coleman, BLACK! The first man to successfully synthesize a hormone for progesterone and cortisone was a chemist named PERCY JULIAN, BLACK! The man who invented the gizmo's that holds trains together, BLACK!! The man who invented the traffic light BLACK!!! These are facts that should be taught every day along with what Benjamin Franklin did or what Henry Ford did. A woman won the title at Wimbledon and was knighted by the queen, her name is Althea Gibbson, BLACK! The accomplishments of black innovators in this country equal if they don't surpass what white innovators have done. The only difference was that black people accomplished under the strain and strife of oppression, making it 50 X's harder to do so. White people should want to know these things instead of happily believing in the myth of white superiority. It's not true that ignorance is bliss. It just makes you stupid!

The most obvious answer is the attempt to create race equality in this nation. When you're family gets remolded to be a cotton picking machine. By means of having your name stripped, teaching of your history forbidden, writings or artwork or records of any kind that illustrates you being part of another civilization is destroyed - well it kinda leaves you in a state of limbo. So there's that.

It's also a shot in the arm for the educational system.
Which 20 years ago - taught about one black guy in the entire history of earth....George Washington Carver....

George Washington Carver is great and all - hell i love peanuts but can't we dig up at least a couple more names???
It's embarrassing to everyone and there is all this racial tension and we sincerely want to unify this nation....!

So it's a shot you know.
Black history Month!
Now get out there and find us some of that destroyed or tampered with history!

Right on!

They aren't. Mexicans do too. I am sure there are more holidays related to the history of various peoples, one would just have to be willing to do some research with an open mind. Just remember that NOBODY can get through a lifetime without some form of hardship.

Why do we have to celebrate Washington's birthday, Christopher Columbus day, and he didn't discover America, and all the other Caucasian holidays. There are more cultures than the European cultures. Why did the European kill and slaughter the Indians, including Mexicans who where here before your forefathers. It's about time! I still waiting on my forty arces and a mule. That was just a little white lie. Have you ever thought about going back to the land of your fathers and live in that culture?

forst and formost i am not a raciest, i have many friends of all nationality/race/colour, plus i live in canada and we are a very diverse and accepting country

but your right why can't we have white/hispanic/chinese/etc etc etc month is that wrong? i have always wondered that also.

how can we prevent society from treating everyone different, regarless of colour when the colour is separated for us by a calender, is it to educate us, that should be done all year regardless of colour, but i dont understand why we can have a black college, but forbid we have a all white or other colour college, etc etc... you get the picture, blacks are not the only harships that were or have faced prejudisim, many others have also, again im just stating what i think maybe i am not educated enough to understand why we have such a month dedicated to blacks, but i am educated enough , not to see colour only people
