For me, it's a matter of fit. I can't sit in an RX-8 or a Lexus, so they're off my shopping list. I can fit in an A4, so it's in my garage. I'm on my third A4 and they've been about 2 good ones out of 3. The 98 was great, the 06 is great, but the 05 was uh... not so great. It had a misfiring prob that the dealer and Audi weren't able to fix, so I got a real deal on a new car that has been as good as the 05 was not. But then, my last Mazda wasn't all it should have been either... And then there's the Camry that stranded my wife on the shoulder of a freeway bridge... Oh, and the Audi will go in the snow, while the others will spin their back tires (usual disclaimers about proper snow tires, yada)
Bottom line: Drive them all and buy the one that tickles what appeals to you most. If it's durability and excellent repair record, buy a Lexus/Toyota. If it's the boy (or girl) racer, buy the Mazda. If you like a refined vehicle with Germanic road character and with excellent interior quality and an idiosyncratic grill, buy the Audi. Or if you're 6'4 and sit tall in the saddle, just buy the Audi. ;^)

If you live in a place where it sometimes snows, the RX8 really wouldn't make sense. I personally don't care for the RX8 since I have read that you have to do a lot of work on the engine frequently to keep it running right (it is a Wankel after all). The Audi with the standard 2.0L turbo 4 is most likely slower than the IS250 because of lag, even though it makes more power. The IS250 can also be had with AWD, but I'm pretty sure that it costs quite a bit more than the basic A4 with Quattro, and I don't think you can get the AWD IS250 with a manual. The A4 with the V6 and Quattro probably actually costs the same as a IS250 with AWD. Bottom line is that while you sacrifice some things, the A4 is still a pretty good deal. In answer to your question, I would rather buy an A4 with a 6-speed stick.

I am on my 2nd A4 quattro and it is very very good at everything, though not GREAT at any one thing. I like the RX8 alot. beautiful lines, but it just is not practical for me, and I would be renting a real car every weekend if I only had that toy. I have friends who are brothers with a matching pair of the Lexus LS430. beautiful cars, smooth, quiet, powerful, but I can get more in my A4 than the big Lexus, and I have the Quattro and can outrun just about anything in the snow or on unpaved roads. Only time I was stuck was when I tried to plow my way out of the driveway like I always did, and one time ended up with all four wheels 8" off the ground lol! Took me almost an hour to shovel the snow out from underneath so it touched down again and I could plow out the rest of the way.
The Lexus and the Mazda would be as clumsy as beached whales in the hills in winter, so I must vote for my nimble and graceful little audi.
Now that I live in the city, I may look at the Lexus AWD vehicles, but the A4 quattro is still cheaper and better looking than the Lexus IS250AWD.

1. Inifiniti has GREAT reliability. The G37 is the fastest of your choices, with 330 HP. I test drove the car a couple weeks ago and what really annoyed me is that the car's torque was towards the upper end of the rev range. I own an e92 328xi and max torque comes on at 2,750 RPM while the Infiniti's torque comes on past 4K RPM. Toyota's quality has recently sunk and the IS250 is a snail. I would not recommend it. The new A4 is an amazing car, The only problem I have with Audi is their electrical problems. If I had to choose, I'd either shoot for the 328xi or the A4 Quattro. Personally I'd take the 328xi again.

tested all of them. The RX 8 was ast but too weird of a layout. Plus... just didnt' want a freakin Mazda. And it gets terrible mileage I hear.
The Lexus was nice actually, but the 350 is the one to get and it's wayyyy too expensive. I almost got one!
But... the A4 had everything. It's got the best interior by a long shot, runs like a cheetah, handles great, looks fantastic and gets the best MPG. and the warranty runs longer than the lease does. Hard to beat. plus I got a fantastic deal on it because I got an 06 in September.
soooo, do yerself a fave and get the Audi.

I would buy the Audi A4 Quattro. I like the way it feels when you drive it. The other cars also feel good but the Audi is more fun for me to drive. The mazda is uncomfortable and the lexus is too quiet.

It depends each is such a different car for a different purpose. reliability i have to go with the Lexus, fit and finish once again Lexus, trade in value.....Lexus, fun to drive you have to look at the rx8 it is quick light and handles like it is on rails. Car and driver called the steering laser sharp and the closest thing to perfection they had driven! Strong words from a credible source. Audi can be a total pain on maintenance and nobody wants a used audi ( for fear of repairs) so resale will suck. I had a A4 Quatrro and I have to admit it was incredible to drive.....but maintaining it was rough! I lost my shirt when I turned around to sell it. I am in love with the RX8 but I would rather have a speed6 ( not one you mentioned...but awsome!) 280 torque all wheel drive it runs great! Price is good too! As far as the RX8, be ready to check the oil every other tank of gas, it is an imperative! Hope this helps!

The IS250 is a slow car, but it is available in a stick unlike its lame-automatic big brother the IS350. The RX-8 is something of a gas hog. The A4 has spotty reliability. If I had unlimited funds to repair it over the years, I would get the A4. Otherwise I would take the IS250 in a 6 speed manual.

RX-8 if those are my only options. My brother-in-law has an A6, and it is not all that great a car. Even though it is fairly new, and in excellent shape, it wanders on the highway at speed. And the Lexus is just a Camry. However, sports cars are a passion of mine, and the RX-8 is the closest you mentioned.
