I'm going to learn how to snowboard for the first time tomorrow. What should I wear underneath my coat and snowpants? I've heard that there's certain rules about material and stuff... any help is appreciated!

By the way, it's supposed to be a high of 15 degrees too.

To the person saying, just wear a pair of jeans and a thermal, you are crazy. its her first time, so shes going to get soaked from falling if she doesnt have something waterproof on, and its going to be 15 degrees, I doubt a pair of jeans and a thermal will keep her warm. You must ride in 60 degree weather on your mountain.

Anyways, onto your question. For that kind of weather, you should wear 3 layers of clothing. Your first layer should be something polyester or synthetic, as long as its NOT cotton. the layer thats going to be closest to your skin needs to wisp away the sweat and moisture, cotton will keep the sweat there and make you feel wet and cold. For me, I wear an Underarmor spandex/polyester shirt and I opt out of wearing a first layer on my legs. ONLY WEAR ONE PAIR OF SOCKS, and make sure they are not cotton either.

Second layer should be your warmest layer, usually most people will put a sweater or hoodie on. cotton for this layer is okay, as long as its not going to be coming in contact with the snow. You could be okay wearing some long john bottoms too.

Third layer should be your waterproof layer. A lightweight, breatheable, but waterproof jacket and pants will save you from getting cold and wet when you fall on the snow. along with this, get some good waterproof gloves as well. A good tip for a cold day would be to buy some of those little heat packs you can carry around and keep them in your pockets or gloves to keep warm. Oh, and yeah, something to keep your head warm(beanie or headband or something) is a must. If its 15 degrees out, you might even try wearing a scarf around your neck to prevent from the icy wind hitting your face. I wear a bandanna around my face and it works fine.

Good luck with everything and have fun! im going this sunday and its the first time in over a year for me, so im psyched to go!

WATERPROOF. for your first time you will be on you butt and knees a ton. Dress in layers. Start with your long underwear, non cotton it will soak up all the water and that's no fun. Poly's and silk work great. Then layer with warm clothing to your comfort. Top it off with WATERPROOF Pants and a coat. You will fall, you will be in snow, snow is water. Stay dry! Good gloves are a must as well.

typically all i wear is a pair of sweatpants and what ever shirt is on top in my drawer. then i wear my outerwear. if the high is 15 you will want great gloves and hand warmers. also, make sure to wear extremely warm socks. if your fingers and toes ain't happy then you ain't happy. make sure you have some kind of neck protection as well because if it's cold and your snowboarding then you are going to get cold wind blowing in your face and neck.
since it's your first time you are going to be spending most of the day on your butt. that is just how snoboarding is. so make sure to wear extra padding in your rear for the wetness and the pain. before you get on the mountain make sure your bindings are adjusted properly and that everything is screwed down right.
also, since it's going to be really cold it's most likely going to be really cloudly alllllll day. make sure your goggles aren't dark lenses because if they are you won't ber able to see a thing.

other than that, have a great time and enjoy it!

waterproof is key. first layer (besides underwear) should be a thermal long sleeve on top (under armour is a great company, with really stellar products) and some kind of tights or something on bottom to wick away the sweat. then u can wear ur sweatpants, then snow pants on bottom. on top, after the underarmour, i would reccomend a fleece, than a snow jacket(thick with shell)

Thermals are a big help! They'll keep you warm. I actually just wear a t-shirt & a pair a jeans. Just what someone would normally wear. You could wear sweatpants or even pajama bottoms if you'd like. Make sure to have some type of head protection. A helmet, beanie, or ear warmer will do. You will definantly want a pair of mittens or gloves too.

Have fun!

when i snowboard, i usually wear a pair of leggings under my board pants.. they keep you just as warm as thermals, but theyre not as bulky!.. also, make sure you layer!! wear a long-sleeved shirt, with another one on top. if you have underarmor shirts, thats great! also, make sure to wear thick, long socks. and dont forget a hat/beanie! you lose 70% of your body heat through your head!
