Speaking as a baby boomer I can tell you exactly why. Many of the faces you see at the anti-war rallies, or celebrities mugging for the television with anti-war rhetoric are products of the Viet Nam war era. They were in their heyday, they felt important and they felt like they made a difference. Since those days they have been irrelevant for the most part. They see this as a return to glory, similar to a boxer going for another fight years after retiring, or a high school quarterback getting to play one more game. They don't care that the times are different, the world is different, and the only thing the same about Viet Nam and Iraq is that they are both wars. To the feel good liberals, surrender will make the rest of the world feel better about Americans. The world will know how sensitive and caring we really are...and how easily everything we have can be taken away while we sit around discussing why we don't deserve the things we have.

Because "staying the course" has only proven to be inneffective, actually it's been making the situation much much worse. A gradual withdrawal or "surrender" in your words, is giving Iraqis a timetable to get their Sh@# together, instead of just knowing we'll be there forever. Many liberals including myself think that the only way to end the problems over there is for the Iraqi gov/people to get involved and end it themselves. As long as the U.S. is there, I only see things getting worse. Sooner or later we're gonna have to leave, we might as well do it while there's still some hope that the Iraqi's can pull it together..

The US never should have gone there in the first place. They have no business being there. Iraq is in worse shape now than before the invasion. Hardly anybody there has electricity constantly. Except of course the killers (soldiers). It's far more violent now than four years ago. The Fascists in Washington need to pull out, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. This will be worse for the US than Vietnam was.

We have whipped them not once but twice and now have hung the leader of the country . How long do you beat a dead horse ? How about we rebuild from Katrina instead of Iraq and leave those idiots alone who have been killing each other for thousand of years . Why don't the republicans scream about bush cutting medical benefits for veterans and not allowing proper troop rotations so the guys can get a break . Where is Osama bin Laden , who reportedly started this mess , not Iraq , it's time to get real .

Sheeple People who refuse to accept the fact that the Bush administration Orchestrated the Terror Attacks of 911 are just plain ignorant. It's impossible for Jet fuel or Kerosene to melt iron...LOOK AT THE PERIODIC TABLE OF ELEMENTS. Also if the floors collapsed causing a chain reaction it would have taken well over 90 seconds for the buildings to come down. They came down at free fall speed....9 seconds. There is no logical argument here. Explosives were pre-planted in the building. Case closed! Why are so many people having a hard time accepting this?

Yeah you do remember Vietnam, the ten year tearing apart of America where we lost fifty eight thousand Americans, for what? It isn't surrender, it's the acceptance that we can never "win" and it was a mistake in the first place. End of story.

Becuse the liberals think that the world can revolve on hugs. Look at it this way, They think TALKING about why the radical muslis are so upset is better than keeping them out of America. They also think that, IF we find out why the radical Muslims are so mad, Hugs will make it ALL better

Because the only way the US can win the war in Iraq is with about 250,000 more troops that the US doesn't even come close to having unless there's a draft.

Surrender implies laying down your arms under fire. No liberal has suggested that. I dare you to find one reference to any elected official having suggested as much. Withdrawing from an untenable situation isn't close to the same thing as surrender.
