i had a bad vacuum advance changed it and now i have no spark

check the ignition control module in the distriburator, it's the thing that has the 4 wires going to it, maybe the wires are not on or the module itself went bad, I have had that happen for no reason, one minute it would start and then shut it off and it wouldn't start because there was no spark, changed the ignition module and everything was fine.

If your distributor is an HEI type check that the ground is plugged in (center lead on group of 3 wires that plugs into cap), also check battery voltage at positive term (says batt or +) there is also a small ground lead that goes from the the advance plate to the distributor housing and check for proper claerance between pick up and rotor (small star looking part on the shaft). The carbon contact in the center of the cap can also give you grief. And it may sound funny but look at distributor with the cap off to be sure it is turning... I've had it happen. The older point type distibutors are much easier to check, with the cap off and the coil wire close to ground , turn the key to run and open and close the points, you should see a spark. If not look for the same small ground lead between advance plate and housing, and check the condencer. You can check the coil by applying power to positive side and tapping the neg side to ground. should see a spark. hope this helps.

if its point ignition sounds like the ballast resistor isn't hooked up or you put the hot wire in the wrong spot on the points. If its HEI then check your coil wire and coil ground under the cap as well as the connection on the module inside cap.

what kind of ignition system are you using?..........if your using a H,E,I.......system......................check the pick up coil.........the vacuum advance on early model,s had a problem when moving the ignition plate to an advanced/retarded position......working back & forth....it had a tendency to break the pick up coil wire,s...also check the module.& rotor.........the rotor had a problem shorting to ground.....right down through the center to the distributor shaft......look under the rotor.....doe,s it have a burnt spot....indicating a shorting condition?

it is probably your ignition module. I been there before I bought a coil, and looked over everything and finally checked the ignition module and that was it.

Is this a EFI with Coil packs?

Is this a efi Motor with Cap & roter?

Is the Motor Carborator or with Early Fuel Injection with Cap & Roter?

Check all your wires including starter and altinator to make sure none are loose or crossed and grounded properly.

sounds like who ever changed you vacum advance bumped the wire on your ignition control module.

Your problem is obviously in your distributer.

after checking all the wiring , i ll go with the pick up coil.
