I got a girl ferret last year in June and so I thought I needed to get a friend for her. So today I went to the local pet store and got a baby boy ferret. I brought him home and had him meet my girl ferret. The first thing she does to him is bite his neck hard and ran away. She has done that several times to him. Should I be worried or should I just give them more time to get used to eachother. I need to know if I need to go get a different ferret or not have another one at all. PLease help.

Well what might look like a hard bite to you is just playing in the ferret world. You should only be scared if she draws blood. She's just trying to show her dominance over the new ferret. Mine did the same thing when I got my second ferret. They probably are allready the best of friends but it's hard to tell with how they play so rough. If you still have doubts take your ferret to the pet store and let it pick out it's playmate and see how it interacts with the other ferrets. You should never have to keep two ferrets in separate cages they tend to get along easily, but right now your old ferret is asserting it's dominance like I said before.

well first, make sure they are both fixed, and then i think you just need to give them some time. however you need to keep a very watchful eye on them for a while to make sure they don't hurt each other. your girl is just a little confused of why another ferret has suddenly entered her territory. i think only time will tell, but you are right, ferret do very well with a friend!

good luck :)

It is a territorial thing and I would watch the little one while they interact. My cat did the same thing and I couldn't keep another cat with him, he almost killed a kitten once. so I would have them interact and get used to each other but watch them until the little one finally sticks up for himself and bites her back once he does that she will stop I am sure of it.

I would reccomend not keeping them in the same cage, untill he gets a little older. Her biting him on the neck is definitly not a joke. She is trying to kill him. I would just let them be together a couple times per day where you are watching them.

Ferrets are very territorial and usually live solitary lives, because you got them so far apart, she may never get used to him. I suggest bringing him back.
