Mel was very unattractive! There was not a speck of sex appeal on him! Even ugly guys possess a little in their own way IF you like him. Mel did not!

I would say they had strange taste but for every man there is a woman and vice versa. Some women are attracted to older gray haired men that wear snow caps year round.
Chances are, he reminds her of her father.
