I think that as a 17 year-old young adult (Isn't 17 the age of adulthood in the UK?) who does not want to be playing HP at 25. It's a shame that people expect him to remain a boy forever. He may be a role model, but this play is very well respected and has won numerous awards. The nudity is symbolic and has nothing to do with parading around shows your parts, like some chick in a rap video or Briney Spears.
For years people had problems with Julie Andrews playing anything other than Mary Poppins. It took her taking her top off in SOB to be considered seriously by those who make movies, showing she can be a woman who is more than just a nanny. Fans had a fit, but got over it.
Let's realize that Dan is old enought to determine the path of his career and is making the necessary steps to ensure he gets hired as a 20 year old.

Good for him!

He is still Harry Potter. Why is this such a big deal. It just another project for him another thing to do. Hit or miss he is showing himself as a serious actor who doesnt want to be Harry Potter forever. Just because he is doing other plays/films on the side does not take away from his most important role as Harry Potter. I cant stand when parents pull in that there kids look up to an actor and that the actor should make there life choices based on kids. The actors are being professionals.

Well I'm probably not going to wind up seeing the play...

Daniel no doubt wants to have an acting career after HP and may well be doing this to avoid being typecast. If so good luck to him.

Also having read some of the other comments... I have seen Equus (though it has been several years). The play is about a very disturbed human being and the nudity within the play isn't meant to be erotic, so much as it is meant to convey the fact that there is something wrong with this guy.

Definitely, Harry Potter will remain as Harry Potter. My views of him will fail to change, of course. I'm so surprised that he chose an opportunity like this to bare it all and do a sex scene or to, just for a little play. I don't know why anyone would cast him for Equus, the guy's only 17, for Pete sake!

Daniel will always be Harry Potter. I do think a little less of him though. My 12 year daughter took all of his posters down from her room. Does this mean that we won't see the new movies? No way, we wouldn't miss them.

I just hope that Daniel realizes that kids my daughters age and younger (and older) really like him and now that he is doing Equus, he isn't setting a good example for them.

I'll always think of him as Harry Potter, but I'm a little disappointed that Daniel would even really want to do this play. He's not even eighteen yet, and he's already acting out a sex scene. I don't think he's setting a good example for his 'younger' fans at all.

Did they have to pick such a white and skinny kid? Even his female partner is a skinny horror.
