Moltres is found at the top of Mt. Ember on one island. You will need Strength and Rock smash to get to the top. Go to the Ember Spa about halfway towards Mt. Ember and you can get the Rock Smash HM there.

When you find Moltres, save before you challenge it. It is a fire/flying type that excels at fire attacks, which works with it's high special attack. It will be at level 50 and has the following attacks...

Flamethrower
Agility
Endure
Fire spin

A risky strategy is to hit it with a strong super-effective hit and just pray to god that it uses endure. If this happens, it will hopefully be left with just one HP left. Now hit it with a sleep inducing move (I'd recommend spore if the only pokémon availible at the moment that can use it wasn't 4x weak to fire and much slower. Go for a Hypnosis attack from a ghost pokémon istead) and then try to catch it. The best type of ball is to use is the Ultra ball. You will need to keep on trying until you catch it though.

moltres is not in the same place in fire/leaf as it was in red/blue/yellow

it is now on 1 island, on the top of mount ember. when you dock at one island, head east, surf, and go north. there's a spa up there, and past that is mount ember

bring lots of ultra balls, he resists pokeballs, greatballs, and premier balls. balls like nest balls, timer balls, they will work decently as well.

you will have to weaken him til he has like 5 or less HP, and hopefully you can put it to sleep, paralyze, freeze... status conditions always make catching much easier

save JUST BEFORE you fight - in case you mess up, or lose or don't catch it
