Ok there are 5 books in the series:

Hitchhiker's
Resturaunt at the end of the universe
Life the Universe and everything
So long and thanks for all the fish

and 1992's somewhat sequal

Mostly Harmless

In the movie there are references to: Resturaunt (but that is how the book ends)

but please give me your opinion, (havent read the books in years) did the movie cover only Hitchhikers or did it go into the others? I know Life covered a lot of the stuff about the ultimate question.

The first movie, The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, covered only the first book, but did touch on the next book at the very end.

Try to remember - the movies seldom stay true to the books, this case is no exception. The books are still better than the movie, at least so far.

The appearing wasn't undesirable however the story replaced into undesirable. They completely replaced Zaphod's 2-head element into some thing thoroughly diverse, which will have worked yet relatively did no longer. additionally there have been a ton of unfastened ends on the top of the movie. I basically think of the form of humor in HHGTTG is a few thing that interprets extra desirable in a e book than a movie. lots of the humorous stuff is Douglas Adams' narration, or little area jokes and thoughts that have not got any relevance to something. this is perplexing to reproduction in a movie.

The book is far better. Personally, I missed the original voice of Marvin from the radio & TV shows. Alan Rickman does a good job as always, but he just doesn't have the same voice.

The movie veered so far from the book. I really hated the fact Zaphod had his second head hidden under the first one. Would it really have been too expensive to CGI the second head and third arm?

It covered the first book, until the end which is completely fabricated (all the stuff about the gun). HGTOG is sooooo much better in book form. No movie will ever be able to accurately capture the humor of that series.
Mos Def as Ford Prefect was great casting!!

definitely books. in the movies, most people didn't understand the humor because everything was happening so fast. and the lines paled in comparison to the lines in the book. it was nowhere near as funny. reading the books i remember laughing out loud so many times. and the only thing that made the movie decent was alan rickman and mos def. (who i love!) he completely brought that character to life.
