Anybody with nursing experience can remove staples but she should really see her doctor to make sure that they have healed correctly and that there isnt any infection. As for putting special cream on it or dressing the wound...my doctor didnt do any of that after I had my csection. Actually the nurse took the staples out while the doctor talked to me. You should urge her to go back to the doctor just to be safe. I would not want an unexperienced person taking them out. My mom offered to take mine out (she's been a nurse (RN) for years) and I still wouldnt let her do it.

I agree with you, it's extremely important that she follow up with the doctor, they should look at the wound to make sure it's healing well! Staples can usually be popped out by anyone with any nursing experience, but she should really see the doctor. Doctors will also want to check her for other problems, including post natal depression! Ask her to reconsider.

Sounds to me like she wants to show her husband that she trusts him, but I think that's a bit too much. She really needs to do that at a doctor's office. The chances of infection are too great to risk. Stitches...sure. I've removed stitches myself. Staples? Uh...no. I have a feeling that once he starts removing them, her pain level will make him stop. He could really injure her.

And who is HE, to think he can do this? Sheesh! She needs to tell him that while she trusts him...he's NOT Marcus Welby M.D. so unless he can show her his EMT credentials...he's not tearing into HER stomach! You haven't said much about him, but it sound like his ego is a bit on the large side. Large enough to risk harming his wife. Not good!

What is he going to use to remove the staples? There are only two things we use to remove them and there is no way he has any access to those sorts of things. Infection can occur...he won't have sterile instruments...torn incision since he dousn't have the correct instruments. This is ridiculous. Sorry! Tell her NO!

Let the doctor do it. They also told me the longer you wait to have them removed it could hurt more.

there is a major risk of infection, besides you need a special tool to take them out. If she cannot get to the doc she should go to the er and ask them to take them out.
